The completion of a new activity hall marks the 10th year of Nick Baker Architect’s involvement in the development of Haydon School, and the penultimate phase of a Masterplan developed in 2004.
By lifting the new activity hall up onto stilts, the main space acquired first floor views out onto the playing fields to the east. The raised hall also created valuable covered external play space for the school below.
The polycarbonate cladding is an economic and effective material for letting light into the activity hall. It captures the light by day and is illuminated at night by the interior lighting.

The new wide corridors and staircase have a yellow finish which creates a warm glow when illuminated by the natural daylight. Simple, robust, and hard-working materials were selected for these busy areas.
